PSHCE

At Coppice we follow the JIGSAW scheme for PHSE. This well proven scheme of work uses six repeating themes to help pupils explore and understand different elements of personal growth and development. This subject is taught as a standalone area and is not specifically linked to our wider term topics.

The JIGSAW curriculum also includes our RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) components – this are taught in the Summer Term through the ‘Relationships’ and ‘Changing Me’, however we have significantly amended the standard JIGSAW curriculum map to ensure that the content and timing of this material is well matched to the needs of our pupils and wider community. Some elements of this content are also non-statutory, and parents have the option of opting out of these lessons where this is the case.

At Coppice, our school values: independence, collaboration, motivation, understanding, responsibility, cooperation and resilience are important factors to our PSHCE work. The  children’s well-being, happiness and safety are our first priority, and PSHCE is the key vehicle through which we share this with children. We regard PSHCE as an important, integral component of the whole curriculum and we weave PSHCE through a variety of lessons.
